Anecdota collects nothing about you. Not a little, not anonymously, not "to improve the experience". There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party code in the app at all.
What follows explains that in detail, because "we don't collect anything" is a sentence anyone can write and few people mean.
The stories you save, which ones you have read, your reading size, and whether you want a daily notification are written to the app's own storage on your device. They are not sent anywhere. I cannot see them. If you have a device backup turned on they are in it, the same as everything else on your phone — that backup is between you and Apple, and I have no access to it. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
There is no server behind Anecdota. The app asks a static file on a content delivery network for the day's story, the same way a browser asks for a web page. That request carries no account, no device identifier, and nothing about what you have read or saved.
Like any request to any website, the network serving that file records the usual connection information — an IP address, a timestamp, the file asked for — in standard logs, held briefly by Cloudflare under their own terms. I do not read them, export them, or join them to anything. There is nothing to join them to. It is written here only because it is true, and a privacy policy that pretends the internet is not involved is not worth reading.
Anecdota has one optional one-time purchase, handled entirely by Apple. Apple tells the app a single thing: that the Apple Account signed in on this device owns it. Apple tells me how many copies sold and in which countries, and nothing else. I never see your name, your email address, your Apple Account or your payment details — if you asked me to find your purchase, I could not.
That is also why the purchase follows you. It belongs to your Apple Account, not to this phone and not to any record of mine. New device, same account, tap Restore purchase, and it is there.
If you turn the daily notification on, it is built on your device out of a story the app has already downloaded. There is no push server and no notification token. Nothing leaves the phone, and nothing reports back whether you opened it.
Sharing a story hands the system share sheet a title, its era and place, and a link. You choose where it goes. Nothing about you is attached, and the link does not identify you or the device it came from.
Nothing is collected from anyone, which includes anyone under 13.
On the App Store, Anecdota's privacy card reads "Data Not Collected" in every category. That is the whole answer, not a careful reading of the questions.
If a future version of Anecdota ever needs to collect something, this page changes before that version ships and the release notes say so plainly. No silent edits.
